Workout Before Ya Porkout. . .

Everyone has their favorite traditions that make the Thanksgiving holiday complete–for some, it’s their Grandmother’s famous stuffing or their aunt’s jello mold.  For others, it’s all about the day of football in the backyard with the cousins.

For us, it’s the Thanksgiving Day Ride and Tie.  Running, biking, carnival sized stuffed animals, race director and triathlon ambassador,  Bob Babbitt, dressed as an Easter Bunny, and Sombreros for all the finishers.  What’s not to love?!

Here’s how it works: everyone pairs up into teams of two with one mountain bike between them.  Both people have to cover the 13 miles of trail by using the bike to leapfrog to the finish.  Imagine a track workout with bike intervals as recovery.  Oh, and there are stuffed animals hidden along the way which count as time bonuses.

As we have almost every year since I moved to San Diego, Andy and I teamed up for a run at the money. .. .or the turkey belt buckle.

Flash & fast Thanksgiving trotters Beth and Collen were also there.  Their race strategy: matching outfits.   Love it.

It’s important to refuel with healthy fare pre turkey feast.  Hence, the Turkey shaped cookies.

Some post race shots.  I think Jeff, Kate’s husband probably deserved a time bonus for his manly mustache
